In this Teaching Dance for Understanding, your Grade 5-6 students will explore the Element of Dance “Relationship”, practice fundamental movement skills, increase self-confidence and participate safely in physical activity through a fun and energetic dance experience that features props!
In Lesson 1, your class will participate in a Playful Dance Experience, where they will get to learn new dance moves, refine their movements and have fun with dance.
Lesson 2 focuses on Dance Appreciation. Students will participate in a circuit that introduces them to the creative process using props.
In Lesson 3, your students will Develop Connections by learning a body percussion sequence. Students will then apply interpersonal and communication skills as they modify the sequence by applying the Element of Dance “Relationship”.
In Lesson 4, students explore a variety of music styles as they continue their Creative Exploration using Elements of Dance and props.
In Lesson 5, students focus on Skill Refinement, by creating a short movement sequence and practicing the execution of their movements with props as they prepare a Dance Performance that showcases their learning.
In Lesson 6 students will participate in a final Dance Performance, integrating their movement sequence into a larger co-created dance with the whole class to the song “Can’t Stop The Feeling” by Justin Timberlake.
