Course Description

The DANCEPL3Y Kids Instructor Training Course is designed for fitness instructors and recreation leaders who want to learn how to lead high-energy dance classes at their local community centre, fitness club, after-school program or or via private online platforms.

This specific Livestream Course offers you coaching and accountability check-ins so that you can complete the training in time to offer Winter/Spring 2021 Programs.

COURSE DETAILS:

*This is a livestream course, with two full days of online learning with your Master Trainer, Matt Leung.

Saturday December 5th [9am - 3pm PST]  
Sunday December 6th [9am - 3pm PST]   

*You must attend both days of livestream training.

During your training, you'll learn how to create a motivating and safe space in-person or online, where kids ages 6-12 can get playful and have fun as they develop physical literacy through dance. 

You will develop instructing skills and learn effective strategies on how to teach dance and in a simple way, using a combination of traditional formations and our PLAYful & interACTIVE teaching approach. 

You'll also learn how to plan and deliver an energizing in-person or virtual kids dance class that develops physical literacy and fundamental movement skills, while fostering a playful and positive class environment.

  • Becoming a DANCEPL3Y Instructor: Choreography, Culture, Coaching, Structure and Certification

PROGRAM CERTIFICATION:
Once you have completed your weekend course, you will have the knowledge and skills to obtain certification status.

In order to qualify for the "Certified DANCEPL3Y Kids Instructor" title, you must submit a practicum assessment (via video) of yourself teaching DANCEPL3Y to a group of at least 5 children who are 6 to 12 years old (no participants required during physical distancing restrictions). In this video, you'll need to demonstrate that you are able to deliver a DANCEPL3Y class according to our internationally accredited program standards, following the course playlist that will be given to you during your training (online video tutorials included).

Following your successful practicum assessment, you'll be eligible to become a licensed DANCEPL3Y Kids Instructor through our Membership program (starting at $227 USD/year), where you'll get access to on-going choreography and program planning content.

Master Trainer

Matt Leung

Matt Leung is a Professional Child who has spent over 15 years working with children and youth in the recreation and education sectors. He has facilitated trainings and workshops across Canada and the United States and he played a key role in the planning and implementation of the 2017 International Play Association conference hosted in Calgary, Canada. He is an expert at instigating play for all ages, has appeared on various media networks, and was recently featured in the newly published book, The Playful Life. Matt studied Global Leadership at Royal Roads University, where he focused on the impact of play and positivity in organizational culture. He is the Program Manager of Communities ChooseWell, a health promotion and community development program operated by the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association. He is also a former college football player, a podcaster, and sits on the Board of Directors for Outdoor Play Canada.
