Course Description

The DANCEPL3Y Kids Instructor Training Course is designed for fitness instructors and recreation leaders who want to learn how to lead high-energy recreational dance classes at their local community centre/fitness club, for a before/after school program, or virtually through online classes. 

This On-Demand course offers self-paced video coaching and accountability check-ins so that you can complete your training and become certified within 90 days (...or sooner, it's up to you! :)

COURSE DETAILS:

Your online learning experience will be hosted by Master Trainer, Elise Gilbert along with Children's Fitness Expert and DANCEPL3Y Program Creator, Melanie Levenberg. 

During your training, you'll learn how to create a motivating and safe space where kids ages 6-12 can get playful and have fun as they develop physical literacy through dance. 

You'll develop instructing skills and learn effective strategies on how to teach dance in a simple way, using a combination of traditional formations and our interACTIVE teaching approach. 

You'll also learn how to plan and deliver an effective and energizing dance class that develops physical literacy and fundamental movement skills, while fostering a playful and positive class environment.

PROGRAM CERTIFICATION:
Once you have completed your online course Part 1 and Part 2, you will have the knowledge and skills to obtain certification status.

In order to qualify for the "Certified DANCEPL3Y Kids Instructor" title, you must submit a practicum assessment (via video) of yourself teaching a DANCEPL3Y class. In this video, you'll need to demonstrate that you are able to deliver a DANCEPL3Y class according to our internationally accredited program standards.


Following your successful practicum assessment, you'll be eligible to become a licensed DANCEPL3Y Kids Instructor through our Membership program (starting at $39/CAD month), where you'll get access to on-going choreography and program planning content.

Elise Gilbert

Elise is an Ontario Certified Teacher who grew up in Collingwood, Ontario. When she was three her parents enrolled her in ballet and she fell in love right away! Dance quickly became her outlet and happy place. It showed her the positive impact that physical activity could have on one's overall health, and gave her a way to express herself. However, as she got older and her training intensified, and she found that increasing emphasis was placed on performance and physical appearance. In 2018, she discovered DANCEPL3Y while attending teacher’s college at Queen’s University. Right away she wanted to know more about the program, because the message behind it aligned perfectly with her personal philosophies around dance and mental health.So, she completed the DANCEPL3Y Kids online course and hasn't looked back since!As a PL3Y Instructor her goal is to give children a different experience with dance than the one she had by exposing them to different styles, in a safe space where they feel comfortable to be themselves.

  • DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL TRAINING BEFORE I CAN BECOME A DANCEPL3Y INSTRUCTOR?

    You do not need to have any specialized fitness qualifications in order to participate in a PL3Y Instructor Training Course. You simply need a passion and love for getting kids active through positivity and playfulness! We welcome people from all backgrounds, and our instructor community includes people from all over the world! Your Instructor Training Course will provide you with the foundations to deliver a high-quality physical literacy fitness class in a variety of different sectors. Proof of First Aid and CPR-C with AED along with a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check are required when you submit your practicum forms for Certification. Instructors who wish to deliver PL3Y Programs in the fitness sector must obtain the necessary insurance following their instructor training course.

  • DO YOU HAVE TO PAY ONGOING FEES TO USE THE BRAND?

    PL3Y Inc. offers a program licensing for individual instructors and organizations starting at $397 CAD/year. Instructors can opt for monthly payments of their licensing fee starting at $39 CAD/month.

  • DO I CREATE MY OWN CHOREOGRAPHY?

    No, all DANCEPL3Y Instructors follow pre-choreographed dance sequences. As a Certified Instructor you can create your own playlists from the Online Dance Database which provides a wide selection of dance styles and music types.

  • DO I NEED TO SHARE MY CLASS PROFITS WITH PL3Y INC.?

    No, you keep what you make! :) Instructors pay a flat annual licensing fee which allows you to more easily build a successful business – the sky's the limit!

  • WHAT RESOURCES WILL I HAVE ACCESS TO AS A PL3Y INSTRUCTOR?

    The Online Database included in your annual licensing fee provides instructors with playlists and choreography videos on a regular basis. The Database includes customizable marketing materials to help you promote your classes. You will also become part of a supportive community of PL3Y instructors. Our online community of instructors connect through an exclusive Facebook group and regular community gatherings, where they can swap ideas and successes with fellow instructors.

  • ARE PL3Y COURSES APPROVED FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS?

    All PL3Y courses are approved for CECs through canfitpro, AFLCA, and BCRPA.

  • ONCE CERTIFIED WHERE CAN I TEACH?

    After passing the practicum assessment and activating your individual instructor license you are authorized to teach in-person and livestream classes in your community. You can offer PL3Y classes for local recreation centres, before/after-school programs, dance/yoga studios and fitness gyms. If you are a school teacher you can use PL3Y programs with your students, but you are not licensed to teach your entire school unless you are a Certified PL3Y Education Instructor working for a PL3Y Education Region. You can also offer online classes. Note online classes must be offered through private livestream software such as Zoom.

  • HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE MY TRAINING AND SUBMIT MY ASSESSMENT VIDEO & DOCUMENTS?

    Practicum assessment videos & documents are due within 6 months of course registration. Practicum assessment videos & Documents submitted after 6 months of course registration require a $50 USD late submission fee.

  • WHAT HAPPENS IF I FAIL MY ASSESSMENT?

    Don't worry! If you do not meet the minimum standards for Certification, you can re-submit your videos a second time for re-assessment. We'll send you detailed feedback to guide you in the exact areas that you need to improve. You receive one complimentary re-assessment that must be submitted within 3 months of receiving your original feedback from your Master Trainer. Additional re-assessments or late re-assessment submissions require a $50 late submission fee. Each assessment includes 2 rounds of feedback. (That means if you need a third and fourth round of review and feedback, an additional $50 will apply.)
